PUTRAJAYA: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government will disburse the subsistence allowance (BSH) amounting RM1.6 billion to 4.1 million recipients in its third phase starting August 15.
Minister of Finance, Lim Guan Eng said, the government has agreed that payment should be made before Hari Raya Aidil Adha that falls on August 22 (Wednesday).
“Once again the Federal Government is committed to implement the PH Manifesto’s promises despite GST has been abolished and we are not bankrupt as alleged by the former Barisan Nasional Government (BN).
“The PH Government can still afford to pay BSH without collecting tax from GST besides RM3 billion petrol subsidies has been allocated until the end of the year to stabilise the prices of RON95 and diesel to RM2.20 and RM2.18 per litre despite the international petroleum prices have increased by 42 percent to USD74 per barrel compared to USD52 per barrel,” Guan Eng said in a media statement Friday.
Guan Eng added, the payment of RM1.6 billion is made when the government is under financial constraint due to the Federal Government’s debts amounting RM1 trillion following the 1MDB scandal and default in governance.
The Minister of Finance hopes the payment of BSH could help the “rakyat” to buy their necessities and make preparations to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidil Adha.
According to the statement, the BSH payment will be credited direct to the recipients’ accounts and for those without account numbers; a letter of approval will be posted to the recipients’ addresses and later could be cashed at any nearest Bank Simpanan Nasional branch.
