PUTRAJAYA: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will formulate a law for financing political parties without involving favours to the donors.
Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said, in relation to that the government will study the system used in Germany where the government provides funds to all political parties.
“We will study whether the Germany system can be done here. In the United States of America (USA) the lobbyists system is being used where they are paid by certain parties/people to influence the government to do certain things.
“We consider the lobbyists system as corruption and cannot be used in Malaysia,” he said in a press conference after a Special Cabinet Committee Meeting on Anti-Corruption on Monday (July 9) here.
He added, the meeting agreed to formulate the law and as such a special committee headed by the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) will be formed.
He said, the draft of the new law will have to be forwarded to the Cabinet for approval.
Mahathir also said, the Cabinet Ministers are regarded as public officials and as such the prime minister, deputy prime minister and political secretaries have to declare their assets and income.
“Politicians have to declare their assets and income and any gift received will have to be reported to the responsible person.
“If the gift is not permitted then the minister, deputy prime minister and the prime minister cannot receive it,” he elaborated. –Malaysia World News.
