PUTRAJAYA: The 14th General Election (GE) will be held before 14th July – the date on which 1,200 recipients of the Prime Minister 1MDB Foundation Special Haj Programme leave for Mecca to perform their pilgrimage this season.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the recipients will leave the country after celebrating two “Rayas” first “Hari Raya Aidilfitri” and the other one that “Raya” (Pilihan Raya) or general election.
Najib did not specifically state the exact date, but it is understood that GE will be held before the Haj pilgrims leave for Mecca on 14th July when he said:“ You (recipients) will depart after the second “raya.”
Najib gave the strong hint on when the GE will be held to 1,200 recipients of the special Haj Programme at Masjid Putra on Friday.
The Prime Minister also stressed that if the existing government remains in power, the pilgrims can perform their Haj well in Mecca.
“As long as the government doesn’t change, everything will remain and will be implemented accordingly,” Najib assured the recipients.
He also urged the recipients to pray for the wellbeing of the country to remain prosperous.
Since the Special Haj Programme was introduced in 2011, about 5,711 people have benefited from it. The recipients among others include Muslim community and religious leaders from all over the country.
Najib added, Malaysia’s strong ties with Saudi Arabia has benefited the country including getting a bigger haj quota.
“During my meeting with King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, I have requested for Malaysia’s Haj quota to be restored or be given a bigger quota. However, King Salman has granted my request.
