KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak today asked Malaysians not to complain about the goods and services tax (GST), because other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, impose similar consumer taxes.
Saudi Arabia too follow the Malaysian model when it has recently imposed a 5% value -added tax on goods and services, he said after having visited Saudi Arabia and performed his Umrah recently.
“Many countries have followed our example (to impose GST),” he told a gathering of police pensioners at the Putra World Trade Centre, quoted Local media.
“They (Saudis) model their economy after ours. We impose GST and they follow. Malaysians who visit that country pay the GST and don’t complain. They only complain in Malaysia,” said Najib.
