Maldives: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, arrived here on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.
This visit is expected to further bolster relations and future cooperation between the two countries.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican are also accompanying Najib Razak.
Among other members of the Malaysian delegation are Minister of Urban Wellbeing and Local Government Tan Sri Noh Omar; Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and several senior government officers.
Najib and his wife were received by Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, Maldives Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareel, and the Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia Mohamed Fahmi Hassan.
Many Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries are being signed, and numerous bilateral deliberations are being held during the Prime Minister’s visit, according to Maldives local media.
The Memorandums involve specific corporations between Malaysia and Maldives mainly in the field of human resources development, military, and police programmes, as well as advancing the institutional and legislative framework of the judiciary.
The visit came in conjunction with the 49th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Maldives.
