Putrajaya: Qatar`s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is visiting Malaysia from 15-16 October at the invitation of His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Sultan Muhammad V.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim will be accompanied by several cabinet ministers, senior government officials and a business delegation.
This will be His Highness Sheikh Tamim’s first state visit to Malaysia since His Highness ascended to the throne on 25 June 2013 as the eighth Emir of the State of Qatar.
The last state visit by the Emir of the State of Qatar to Malaysia was by the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani from 19 – 20 May 2009.
Malaysia and the State of Qatar continue to enjoy close relations in various key areas including political, economy and social affairs. In 2016, Qatar was ranked as Malaysia’s 40th largest trading partner with the total trade of USD566 million (RM2.37 billion). Total exports were recorded at USD150 million (RM623 million) while total imports were USD416 million (RM1.7 billion), with the trade balance in favour of Qatar amounting to USD256.94 (RM1.11 billion), a statement released by Foreign Affair Ministry said yesterday.
This visit will provide an opportunity for leaders of both countries to discuss bilateral issues and exchange views on issues of common interest.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim will be accorded with a state welcoming ceremony at the Parliament on 16 October 2017. Later in the evening, His Highness Sheikh Tamim will have an audience with His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV, Sultan Muhammad V to be followed by a state banquet at the Istana Negara.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim is also scheduled to have a restricted meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia to be followed by an expanded delegation meeting at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence, Seri Perdana on the same day.
