Kuala Lumpur: Ma’al Hijrah is celebrated every year to create awareness of how big and great were the sacrifices made by Prophet Muhammad and his companions to uphold god’s religion on earth.
The meaning of sacrifice should be taken as an important lesson for us to have more “sympathy” in the month of Muharram. Muharram marks the start of the Islamic New Year.
In the Islamic calendar, Muharram is considered to be the second most sacred month after Ramadan.
Relating to sacrifice, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, despite many obstacles, Islamic teachings continued to spread progressively until it once became a great civilization occupying one third of the world. Today there are 1.6 billion Muslims around the world.
“Because of that, the Muslims cannot afford to be careless but to continue placing Islam at its highest level and to endlessly defend the sacredness of the Syiar.
“Islam teaches us to be progressive and successful. To achieve that, we have to work with dedication, never give up, never stop from sacrificing or run away from the “battle field” and most importantly to formulate strategic planning with concerted effort and unity,” he said in ushering 1 Muharram 1439 Hijrah (22 Sept. 2017) with the theme “Ummah Unity Nation’s Prosperity.”
In his blog NAJIBRAZAK.COM, the Prime Minister also said, in Malaysian context, Muharram is very special as the country has just celebrated its 60th National Day and Malaysia Day.
He added, for six decades, Malaysia has been progressive and dynamic following the Maqasaid Syariah, upholding the Wassatiyah principles, the Federal Constitution besides a concrete natural ideology that has witnessed Malaysia’s successes.
“The apex of our strength is the sacrifices made by all sectors without differentiating between one another and makes unity and harmony as an important asset to plan strategy and form a nation with a strong identity and successful,” Najib reiterated.
In line with Maal Hijrah’s theme, Najib said, with unity especially amongst the Muslims and the people of Malaysia, we have been successful, free from colonialism and imperialism.
“From unity and covenant, we move people out of poverty to developmental programmes with optimistic minds and with that we are now in the midst of becoming a high income advanced economy,” Najib said. –Malaysia World News
