No official confirmation Al-Baghdadi died

Rami Abdurrahman, director of the war monitoring group, announced on Tuesday that Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State  (ISIL), has died in eastern Syria.

“We learned of it today but we do not know when he died or how,” Abdurrahman told reporters.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has confirmed the information that Al-Baghdadi has been killed.

However, there was no official confirmation of the news by Russia or USA or Iraq.

Russia’s defence ministry said last month that it might have killed Baghdadi when Russia was bombarding the outskirts of the Syrian city of Raqq.

But The US Department of Defence said it could not confirm Baghdadi’s death.

Iraqi and Kurdish officials did not confirm his death, either.

Al-Baghdadi has not been seen in public since he declared himself “Caliph of the Islamic State” in 2014 at the Grand Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul.

He has been reported dead several times.
