SHAH ALAM – His Majesty, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V was proclaimed as the Fifth Chancellor of University Technology MARA (UiTM) at a special function in conjunction with the 86th UiTM Convocation Ceremony held at the Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor, (DATC) UiTM Shah Alam here yesterday.
Sultan Muhammad V was proclaimed the Fifth Chancellor of UiTM following Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the fourth chancellor’s five-year term as Yang di-Pertuan Agong ended on 12th December 2016.
After the proclamation ceremony, Sultan Muhammad V delivered a speech. His Majesty said: “I come to UiTM for the Fifth Chancellor of UiTM’s Proclamation Ceremony and then give away scrolls to graduates in the first session of the 86th UiTM Convocation ceremony today.
“I am very pleased to hear about the successes and achievements made by UiTM in various aspects over the years. As a Chancellor, I will be with UiTM community to give encouragement and support to enable UiTM to raise its position to become the best in Malaysia and a well-known university globally.”
His Majesty stressed that the co-operation and support that had been established could consistently facilitate and complete each other towards generating human capital for future leaders and civilization that harmonizes the nation.
“UiTM should utilize its resources, expertise, and experiences in various fields and disciplines and optimizes its capabilities for the future of Malaysia,” His Majesty added.
Present at the ceremony, Persatuan Alumni UiTM (PAUiTM) President, Datuk Zaini Hassan who is also a member of UiTM Board of Directors, UiTM academicians, graduates and their parents.
His Majesty, Sultan Muhammad also congratulated 28,618 graduates who received their PhD, master degrees, degrees and diplomas at the convocation ceremony.
His Majesty also mentioned that UiTM was established 60 years ago as an institution that played its function to help the Malays and Bumiputeras via higher learning with good values and professional ethics.
His Majesty also congratulated Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar, the former Chairman of the Malaysian Security Commission for her appointment as the new UiTM Pro-Chancellor.
Meanwhile, UiTM Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Hassan Said said, up to date UiTM has produced 715,795 graduates that fill various important positions in both the government and private sectors besides becoming entrepreneurs.
On employability Hassan said, UiTM produces about 30,000 students every year and they are employed in six months time. This has placed UiTM graduates at the highest level compared to other local universities.
