KUALA LUMPUR JULY 1: Two million vaccine doses are needed for construction workers nationwide to ensure all the workers in the sector will be immunised from COVID-19.
Senior Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said, the ministry hopes the vaccination programme for the construction sector could be implemented fast in line with the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) to ensure the construction sector will return and contribute to the national economic growth.
The current record shows that nearly one million construction personnel have registered with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and out of which 70 per cent are citizens and 30 percent foreigners.
“Those registered includes construction project managers, building supervisors, construction workers and administration personnel,” Fadillah said in a statementhere today.
Fadillah highlighted that the first step taken by the ministry is to implement the immunisation process on the construction workers by introducing the Construction Industry Vaccination Programme (CIVac) through CIDB.
The Senior Minister said, CIVac is a cooperation programme between the government and private sector aimed at escalating the vaccination inoculation process among construction workers to reduce COVID-19 clusters at the work places.
“In the initial stage, CIVac has provided 80,000 vaccines for 4,000 construction personnel delivered by the Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV).
“The vaccines are for the construction personnel in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor. The CIVac vaccination programme has started today at the CIDB Convention Centre, Jalan Cheras for construction workers in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Meanwhile, the Centre of Vaccination for CIVac in Selangor will be opened in Kompleks Sukan Negara Panasonic, Shah Alam on 14th July 2021 while CIDB has opened for vaccination registration for all construction personnel in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor on 21st June 2021.
“All the slots have been booked within less than 24 hours and this shows that the construction industry players are very much aware and well prepared to ensure all workers will be inoculated with COVID-19 vaccinations. –Malaysia World News
