1MDB scandal: Malaysian Government received RM19 billion from Goldman Sachs, DOJ

PUTRAJAYA JULY 24: The Malaysian Government has received a total of RM19 billion (US$4.5 billion) for the 1MDB Fund including the amount that was returned earlier by the American Department of Justice (DOJ).

Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin welcomed the announcement on the settlement worth RM16.6 billion that was made between the Government of Malaysia and Goldman Sachs (GS) for the claims related to misconduct and misappropriation in 1MDB case.

“The government is committed to continue the effort to get back all the other assets related to 1MDB and to make claims on individuals and related parties involved in the 1MDB misappropriation scandal,” said Muhyiddin in a statement here today.

The Prime Minister thanked the Ministry of Finance, Attorney General’s Department, Security Commission of Malaysia, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), National Anti Financial Crime Centre and the team of consultants in their efforts to reach the settlement.

“This is considered as an achievement in the effort to return the rights and properties to the people of Malaysia,” Muhyiddin reiterated. –Malaysia World News
