LANGKAWI: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he had warned Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) not to work with Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone Umno but his advice was ignored.
“I had warned that it will not be easy for Bersatu to cooperate with Umno as Umno is far stronger and Bersatu is a new party.
“They said they can handle the problem and now we see Umno refusing to work with Bersatu,” he told reporters at an event today.
Commenting on parties that said they want to contest in the 15th general election alone, he said no party will win and be in power on their own.
“There must be a coalition between the parties because, in Malaysia, no party has ruled the nation on its own,” he said.
Dr.Mahathir’ s comment came after Umno leaders last week vowed to cease collaboration with Bersatu and contest in the GE15 on their own.
