181 detected positive COVID-19 at relief centres, 2,589 new cases nationwide – Ministry of Health

PUTRAJAYA DEC 20: The Ministry of Health is with the opinion that the COVID-19 cases among the flood victims could be on an increase following 181 cases were detected nationwide.

Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin said, the 181 cases were detected as of 11am Monday when the Ministry conducted screenings at several flood relief centres nationwide to detect the corona virus among flood victims.

Khairy said, from the cases detected, six are from Kelantan, 52 in Pahang, 117 in Selangor, one in Negeri Sembilan, one in Melaka and four in Kuala Lumpur. However most of the cases are in category 1 and 2.

He said, those affected had been transferred immediately to hospitals, COVID-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) or selected health facilities.

“Due to this flood disaster, the Health Ministry expects an increase in cases due to evacuation situation that had to be been in a high risk situation where some public health measures could not be fully implemented,” said Khairy.

On another development, Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the daily COVID-19 infections have recorded 2,589 new cases that brings the cumulative total to 2,721,544 cases. –Malaysia World News
