PUTRAJAYA SEPT.12: A new Sea Cluster had been identified among the illegal immigrants in Kunak, Sabah following a detainee from the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre was detected positive COVID-19.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the detainee had been sent back to Zamboanga, Philippines on August 27, 2020 but returned to Sabah via the “rat path” on September 5 to visit his wife.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, the immigrant’s wife was detected positive COVID-19 on September 8 when undergoing the reference screen test from Kunak Hospitalto Tawau Hospital for further treatment due to bleeding complication after giving birth.
The immigrant had symptoms on September 6 said Dr. Noor Hisham after active case detection and close contacts were screened test where two people had been detected positive COVID-19 including the child and the neighbour of the index case (9861 and 9862).
He added as of September 12, 49 Philippines citizens had been screened test andfrom that four had been detected positive COVID-19, 14 individuals were negative and 31 waiting for the results.
Regarding the latest COVID-19 situation, Dr. Noor Hisham said, 58 new cases had been recorded today and from that five cases were imported involving three Malaysians and two non-citizens.
The imported cases included three Malaysians who came back from Pakistan (1); India (1) and Indonesia (1) while one person from Syria and one illegal immigrant from index case of Sea Cluster.
“The 58 new COVID-19 cases had contributed to the cumulative total of 9,868 while eight cases had been discharged bringing the cumulative total to 9,189 (93.1%).
A“From 551 active cases, nine were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while five needed respiratory aids and there was no death case bringing the cumulative total remaining at 128 (1.30%),” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.
Elaborating on the 53 local transmissions of COVID-19, Dr. Noor Hisham said 29 Malaysians with 24 non-citizens were involved. From that 48 cases occurred in Sabah involving 24 non-citizens.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, from the 48 cases in Sabah, 44 were from the Benteng LD with 21 non-citizens affected while three cases from Sea Cluster involving non-Malaysians and one case involving a pre-operation screen test in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
