KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has recorded a surge of 62 new COVID-19 cases after a single figure of six on Sunday with 56 detected from local transmissions involving 30 Malaysians, 26 non-citizens and six imported cases.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, out of 56 local transmission cases, 50 were from the Benteng LD cluster with one acute respiratory infection that was detected at the Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.
Elaborating on the local transmissions, Dr. Noor Hisham said, four cases were detected in Kedah involving two cases in Sungai cluster; one screen test case in Telaga cluster; one screen test case with symptoms at a dental clinic in Alor Setar while another one involving a screen test of a close contact positive case 9397.
“The new positive COVID-19 cases has contributed to the cumulative total to 9,459 with 207 active cases, including six admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) while four others needed respiratory aids,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here on Sept.7.
In another development, nine had been discharged and there was no death case reported. Meanwhile the six imported cases involved two Malaysians and four non-citizens and they came from Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Egypt.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, until today the Benteng LD cluster has recorded 66 positive COVID-19 cases with 64 involving the detainees while the remaining two involving a prison officer and his relative.
Regarding the Benteng LD cluster, Dr. Noor Hisham said, according to the risk analysis, the infections were contributed by the confined and congested space inthe prison that had made social distancing difficult to adhere.
In Lahad Datu and Tawau, Sabah, 1,404 individuals had been screened test involving 631 detainees, 98 prison’s staff, 157 staff’s families and inmates, 78 police and 440 other government agencies’ officers. –Malaysia World News
