TANJUNG MALIM: Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate, Mohd. Zaidi Aziz has won a landslide victory in the Slim state assembly by-election yesterday (Aug.29) after garnering 13,060 votes, defeating two independent candidates, Amir Kusyairi Mohd. Tanusi (2,115) and Dr. Santharasekaran (276).
Election Commission returning officer Shamsul Ridzuan Idris announced the official results at the vote-tallying centre at the district council building here.
Zaidi won with a 10,945-vote majority in the by-election that has recorded 327 spoilt votes and voters’ turnout of 68.4% from the constituency with 23,000 voters.
The by-election was held following the death of its four-term assemblyman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, of BN from a heart attack on July 15.
Meanwhile the BN Secretary General, Tan Sri Annuar Musa hopes the strong support showed by the people towards the BN, Muafakat Nasional (MN) and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Slim by-election will be continued in Sabah State Election on September 26.
“In Sabah we will surely confront a bigger challenge. We want to see the people are well defended as we have seen how Sabah has been manoeuvred by the WARISAN Party,”
said Annuar at Bilik Gerakan BN in FELDA Residence Trolak, near here yesterday.
Annuar congratulated the BN candidate that has won with a big majority in Slim and hopes the victory does not make the BN careless but instead increase the determination to strengthen the BN.
“Thank you to all the voters in Slim River that had supported BN candidate, Mohd. Zaidi Aziz to win,” said Annuar. – Malaysia World News
