KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department (MID) had detained 166 foreigners with some of them working as Guest Relations Officers (GRO) in an entertainment centre at Jalan Sultan Ismail here on 6th July 2022.
Director General of MID, Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said, among those detained were nine males and 133 females from Thailand, one male and 12 females from Vietnam, two females from Laos, six males from Bangladesh and three from Indonesia.
Khairul added, 39 officers from the Operation Unit, Operation Division, Investigation and Prosecution of Immigration Malaysia, Head Office, Putrajaya, had raided the entertainment centre at 11.30pm.
Khairul said, according to sources, the entertainment centre had been visited by many local customers and it was full when the Immigration Officers raided the place.
“When the centre was raided, some GROs, customers and the workers had provoked the officers and attempted to escape. However, the situation was under control without any unwanted incident.
“The entertainment centre was believed to have started its operation on 5th June 2022 and had offered GRO services to foreigners at the rate of RM100-RM1, 000. The customers will buy the sash with the price stated and choose any female GRO accordingly,” Khairul said.
Among the offences committed by the foreigners include no personal documents, over stay and other offences.
All the detainees were placed at the Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur Immigration Detention Depot for further actions under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966 and Immigration Procedures 1963. –Malaysia World News
