Protests over the death of black man George Floyd grip the US

Despite curfews and National Guard presence, thousands of Americans, most of them African Americans, are rallying violently across the US to protest police brutality and demand for the blacks dignity and rights after the death of a handcuffed black man in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Videos show police responding with tear gas, targeting angry but peaceful protesters . Journalists have also been targeted by police, according to Aljazeera reporting from there.

However, protesters have remained undeterred by curfews and the presence of the US National Guard in some cities.

Some largely peaceful protests turned violent, with looting and vandalism as the night raged.
