PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reported 172 more Covid-19 cases today (Monday, May 25), bringing the country’s total infections to 7,417.
Most of the cases involve foreigners who live and work in Malaysia as well as the illegal immigrants.
As of today (May 25) the Ministry of Health said 27,383 foreigners had been tested for COVID-19 and among them 1,519 were detected positive, with 1 admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) and 4 dead.
Today alone, Malaysia has detected a new cluster of 159 Covid-19 cases among foreigners.
Health Ministry director-general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of today 172 new cases, 159 cases involve foreigners, amongst which 112 detected inside 3 immigration detention centres in the country.
Currently, there is a cumulative total of 227 positive cases among three immigration detention centres in the country.
Among the positive cases found in the immigration depots are 53 Bangladeshis, 41 Indians , 38 Indonesians, 37 from Myanmar, 28 Pakistanis, and Chinese nationals 17.
Senior Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they cannot let the illegal immigrants move freely in the country to prevent the corona virus from spreading.
“The COVID-19 treatment centre in MAEPS had been fixed with barbed wires to stop the immigrants without documents to escape from the authorities.
“These detainees do not possess any personal documents and it is difficult to trace their whereabouts outside,” he said in a press conference held here today.- Malaysia World News
