PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has reported 172 new Covid-19 cases today, five were imported while 167 were local transmissions.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said from the local transmissions 159 involved non-Malaysians.
112 cases were detected from three immigration depots namely at the Bukit Jalil, Semenyih and KLIA.
Meanwhile, a new cluster has been formed at the KLIA depot where 39 were detected with positive COVID-19.
Noor Hisham said 1,449 samples have been taken and from that 520 were negative while 870 were waiting for the results.
He said, from the Bukit Jalil depot, 1,536 samples were taken including 1,422 were detainees and 144 staff. From that 126 were positive COVID-19, 514 negative and 896 waiting for the results.
“At the Semenyih depot, 1,757 samples were taken including 1,630 detainees, 127 staff while 66 found positive, 753 negative and 938 waiting for the results,” he said in a press conference here today.
Dr. Noor Hisham also reported that from the three clusters, 227 detected with positive COVID-19 involved non-Malaysians namely 53 Bangladeshis, 41 Indians, 38 Indonesians, 37 Myanmars, 28 Pakistanis, 17 Chinese, 4 Cambodians, 3 Nepalese, 2 Sri Lankans and 1 each from Philippines, Libya, Egypt and Syria. – Malaysia World News
