A Malaysian man sentenced to death via a video call in Singapore

It was the first death sentence to be pronounced and carried remotely in Singapore, with the country under coronavirus lockdown.
“For the safety of all involved in the proceedings, the hearing for Public Prosecutor v Punithan A/L Genasan was conducted by video-conferencing,” a spokesperson for Singapore’s Supreme Court said in response to Reuters’ questions.
The 37-year-old Malaysian was accused of heroin smuggling in 2011.
