1,600 new COVID-19 cases today, the govt balances between health and livelihood

PUTRAJAYA DEC.7: The Malaysians have been granted the permission to travel nationwide without any district/state restrictions starting today but unfortunately the country has recorded 1,600 new COVID-19 cases bringing the cumulative total to 74,294 with 11,604 active cases under treatment in the hospitals.

The permit to travel across the country without restrictions except in the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area had been announced by the Senior and Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Saturday.

According to the Senior Minister, before framing any “order” to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has to consider the balance between health, safety, livelihood of the people and the growth of the national economy.

On the latest situation, some people are hesitant to travel anywhere or even to go out of their houses for no good reasons. However some people take the advantage to travel back to their hometowns since they have not been back since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

In another development, netizens in the social media have consistently reminding the people to adhere strictly to the standard operating procedure (SOP) that have been set by the government in the Recovery MCO (RMCO) and the Conditional MCO (CMCO) that many states are still in it.

In another development, the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, new cases in some states are on the surge with Negeri Sembilan contributing 541 cases (33.8%) being the highest followed by Selangor with 426cases (26.6%) while Sabah with 248 (15.5%)
“The surge in COVID-19 cases in Negeri Sembilan is due to the increase of 500 cases in the Bakti cluster and the cases are isolated and occurred in the prison area.

“On the whole, 584 cases reported today are related to the clusters at the Temporary Detention Centres (TDC) and prisons involving Bakti (500), Tembok (49), TDC Sibuga (17), Seberang Perai Prison (8), Matambai (7) Jalan Harapan Prison (2) and GK Tawau (1),” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in the statement also said, 1,033 individuals had been discharged adding to the cumulative total to 62,306 cases (83.9%).

Dr. Noor Hisham added, 129 positive COVID-19 cases had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 57 needed respiratory aids while two death cases had been recorded bringing the death toll to 384 cases or 0.52% from the grand total of cases.

Two new clusters had been formed today and that included the Malawati affecting the district of Kuala Selangor. Until 7th Dec. 143 individuals had been screened out of which 14 new COVID-19 cases had been detected.

In the Awan Lembah Construction Site cluster in the district of Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory and the district of Klang in Selangor , 441 individuals had been screened and out of which 35 were detected with positive COVID-19 until 7th Dec.2020.

The states that record new COVID-19 cases today are Negeri Sembilan with 541, Selangor (426), Sabah (248), Kuala Lumpur (148), Johor (98), Penang (55), Perak (54), Kedah (18), Melaka (1), Kelantan (3) Labuan (5), Sarawak (2) and Pahang (1).- Malaysia World News
