10 RMN personnel killed when two helicopters crashed during flypast training

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officers and personnel including three women were killed following two helicopters collided in my a mid-air manoeuvre during a flypast training for RMN’s 90th anniversary celebration scheduled next month.

The helicopters involved include an Augusta Westland AW139 Maritime Operative Helicopter (HOM) and Eurocopter Fennec.

According to reports, following the collision the AW139 HOM helicopter crashed at the steps of the Navy Stadium while Fennec crashed near the pool of the Navy Sports Complex

Meanwhile, RMN in a statement confirmed that seven crew were from HOM while three from Fennec RMN who had been killed in the crash that occured at 9.30am, Tuesday.

The statement added, all the victims were sent to RMN Hospital, Lumut, Perak for identification.
